Anti Hopping Clutch

There is an anti hopping clutch available from mb2c. It fits the R and S boxer models. By the time of this writing it is the only one offered by anyone in the world.

The anti hopping clutch eliminates rear wheel stamping and lock-up when going off the throttle or switching down gears from high rpm. Therefore unsettling the chassis under brisk riding is avoided, and safety increased. The systems works completely automatic, without any rider action required. Engine breaking is maintained for most normal riding situations. But the best - in my eyes - is the elimination of system eminent shaft drive reactions on the drive train, which are typical in conjunction with long suspension travels. As there are for example:
- much lesser abrupt reaction on going off the throttle at low speeds
- "stiff" transmission feel eliminated
- gear shifting clonk at low rpm greatly reduced

The clutch mechanism made by mb2c is a closed, lifetime maintenance free system. It weights about 550 grms. It comes with a long life Sachs sinter material clutch plate.

Now we are coming to the unpleasant part, the price. It is a wopping Euro 1149 / US$ 1600. Mamma Mia.

I love the slipper clutch in the SV engine I put in my V-Strom. If works as advertized it would be a great addition to the GS. But, the Mamma Mia applies. But then again, it's a beemer and nothing is cheap! :-D

Thanks for the first hand comment, John. I thought a slipper clutch is not a useless toy. I agree the GS would benefit, if the claims are true. So far I have no problems with the gear shifting. However the abrupt transmission from the shaft at slow speeds, and the clunk from the rear drive are going on my nerves at times.

Will see how it goes with my resources and job. BTW. I feel the price is too high, even for the BMW "premium" environment.

Unfortunately true. And that's not all. The labour cost must be outrageous. As I see it, exchanging the clutch requires departing almost the entire motorcycle. :(

Damn how I wish I could have it.
