Clutch -slipping- not//

My new 1200 GSA felt like the clutch was starting to slip. When I'd accelerate while at speed, the RPM would go up but the speed was slow to respond.

Got with the dealer and he had me check the alignment of the clutch lever and the hand guard. Well, there is very little room in there and so there is a groove that the end of the lever MUST run in or it rubs- hence the slipping clutch.

Problem solved.

David, your memory is getting as bad as mine. Remember the same thing happened to your Hampton riding buddy (can never remember his name) up at TWO last year. :wall:

Does anyone know how long the GS clutch plate would make it, usually?

I have heard of several clutches that failed under 20,000 miles. One was warranty covered due to contamination of oil by defective seal. The other was not covered and I saw the bike. It had been rode hard off road on slow track which would have meant lots of clutch. These bikes are fair on a trail but in slow single track you are going to eat a clutch!!! The hazard of a dry clutch 8-)

Yep, the hazzard of a dry clutch.

Ridden on road with the occasional off-road side trip they'll last 60,000 miles and more, so I was told.

Experienced my first slippage today. :( Not sure why yet. Did it to me twice under hard acceleration. I don't slip my clutch and had not smelled clutch until today. And NO my handguard cannot contact the clutch lever(new style on 08) Bike is filthy, so I cannot see any Tranny fluid leads. Been doing lots of dirt roads and mud. Gonna try to clean it tonight and see whats up. Got several rides planed over the holidays and would hate to be without my baby!!!
