I haven't had this issue nor did I ever hear about it anywhere.
Looking at my own assembly, it seems the female side of the plug is glued or welded to the fuel pump flange. This would explain why the BMW workshop sees the need to replace the entire flange. To me it seems a smart mechanic would be able to do something about it without the need for a complete flange. But I have doubts there is someone in Singapore. May be someone else can advice better than me.

Of course an o-ring or a washer would not do it there. If it did, then BMW would have put one in there already.
