Easier refuelling

In the German BMW R12GS forum I read a lot about drilling the tank nozzle, allowing fuel top-up topping to be easier and quicker. The guys who drilled obviously got 2 liters more into the tank. That's quite some difference, but I am not in the mood to dismantle everything.

Then looked into the tank and saw a rubber grommet

Took it off, its easy. Poke the fingers in and lift it up. Refueling is much easier without. I think the rubber grommet is there to prevent people using leaded petrol?

RE: Easier refuelling

Found a 'drilled nozzle' pic, allowing the tank to keep 23 liters total! On the bottom is also a part of the rubber nozzle visible.

I wonder how much would there in for the ADV ...

RE: Easier refuelling

Here is a tip I learned somewhere. By removing the fuel filler assembly and installing it 180 degrees, fueling becomes easier.

I made this change, it is rather simple. Now the fuel filler cap hindges toward the front of the bike rather than back. With the filler cap out of the way, fueling is easier.

There are three rubber wedges that need to be realigned just opposite of how they are initially installed. It becomes obvious once you remove the fuel filler assembly.
Enjoy life, lower your standards.

- original location of the rubber wedges

- removed the bar with NT-Cutter

- reversed rubber wegdes

- removed some of the plastic in front, where the hinge goes

That's it. Better refuelling!

Hint: Don't bother with turning the tank cap, if you are planning for buying the SW-Motech Quicklock tank bag system. The SW-Motech holder requires the tank cap opening to the rear.

The nozzle of the '08 is said to be re-designed for easier refilling. Actually a lot of upgrades for the '08 models all in all, isn't it?

I would like to see a pic how the nozzle looks like on the '08.
