Wilbers shocks

Hello Peter,

my experiences with Wilbers shocks: I like them! But, on the other hand, as you know I'm working at the mother company in Germany and have to like them. But nonetheless I guess... I really really like them.

If anybody here has questions about Wilbers shocks, you can always ask me but please don't use the PM as I do not offen have the time to visit forums, instead send me an email (kontaktusa@wilbers.de). For information about Wilbers shocks you can also refer to our website (www.motorcycle-suspension.com).

As I am totally new here I would like to say 'hello' to everybody, take care and always ride safe.

@Peter: I hope I did not advertise or anything through this post... You really asked for my opinion, didn't you? ?(

Greetings from Germany to Singapore

Dirk

Well of course we do see it as an offer to use you as a contact and source of information whenever needed.

Real advertisement goes into the vendor area http://www.gsri.info/forum/index.php?page=Board&boardID=82 , right? So whenever you have good offers for the GS, there is the place. May be we talk about a group buy, whenever we have more members.

BTW. I believe you that you like Wilbers shocks :P . In fact I do, too, since I had a rear shock already on my V-Strom.

Wilbers

I have Wilbers on my LT and love them. Klause had them built for my and my wife's weight. This LT handles like no other!!! No chicken strips left on the tires and no more grinding of the center stand.

I now also have a 2002 GSA that needs new shocks. Since Klause no longer has Wilbers, I am looking for alternatives- Ohlins, Wilbers DE, etc.

What pricing have you found?

I had Wilbers on my Strom, anyone know what the Wilbers are going for and how they hold up versus Ohlins?

I have ridden a R 12 GS with Oehlins. Compared to mine (WP front and Wilber rear) it filters small road bumps much lesser well, and overall it was a pretty firm set-up. On the plus side the handling was very crisp. Even if I set my suspension to more sportive riding, it still is more sensible to these small road irregularities.

How did you have the Wilbers set up? Did you order them or were they someone elses. When I ordered for my Strom, they asked my weight, how much equipment weight, 2up, and what style of riding I do most... they deliver setup togo!!! It was much stiffer than my factory shock...

The new Wilbers for my V-Strom was bought from the previous Wilbers distributor in the US, Klaus Huenecke. It came pretty well set-up. This was a 640.

I bought my 642 for the GS as well new, but this time direct from Wilbers Germany. As it came it was good for very sportive riding. It took me a while to adjust until I was fully satisfied. Somewhat firmer than OEM, but way more sensitive over fine bumps, a little lesser comfortable, but way lesser wallowing. To be frank I stopped counting clicks on my settings since ages. I just set it over weeks up and down in 1 or 2 step increments until I had what I liked.

I was familiar with preload and rebound dampening. But high and low speed compression were new to me. For noobs I can only recommend getting informed about the effect of the different functions on the ride, then change starting from the factory settings, comparing what has changed and align it with what was learned. You being a racer should be acquainted with these things.

Klaus is more a touring guy I understand, the Wilbers team is more out of the racing corner.

The Wallowing is the the only thing on my GSA that I have been unable to dial out but it is not near as bad as the Strom. I am gonna ride these for a spell. I saw a guy on ADV is rebuilding stock GS shocks to customer specs for about $500-$600 US. I will probably replace with Wilbers unless someone gives me reason to change my mind in the next 10,000 miles....

Sorry I am not familiar with this expression. Does it mean you are gonna ride them until they are down?
