Turn signals swap - avoid them breaking

The last time I laid the bike in a sand hole. The right turn signal on the front touched the ground, and was dislocated from it's mounting base. Nothing happened, not even a scratch on the casing. I loosened the bolt and just sticked it back.

Now I realised the front turn signals do stick out quite far, and are probably one of the first items to ground touch. Initially I wanted to look for narrower turn signals. But then I realised, I do have already narrower ones! It's the pair on the rear. So why not just swap? And this is what I did.

Swapped

A few things to note. The holes in the mounting lashes are not made in the same fashion front and rear.

Rear turn signal held at the front

I extended the holes. Now they don't align perfectly well, but that's ok with me. On the rear it's the same, but it can not be seen, since it's black there.

Not aligned

The turn signals need to be swapped cross-wise, means the left front goes to the rear right, the right front to the left rear, and so on. Reason: There is a small drain hole on the bottom of the casing, which otherwise would point upwards.

The bolts are of different lengths. Don't exchange.

Long = front, short = rear

Some special bolt from BMW. Not sure for what that is, but I think it prevents them getting lost.

The cables are connected inside the turn signal housing via small spade connectors. The fronts cables are plenty long now. On the rear the cables are just long enough to attach them. Good luck!
