I talked today to the Singapore distributor Chiap Lee. He showed me the Astra S48. The case is practically indistinguishable from any Givi case of similar size. Which is a good thing, it means the shell should be solid. The base plate is made from plastic material. It is 100% the same system as the Givi mounting plate. The case comes with universal mounting material, which looks sufficient to me for mounting the case to most round or flat profile rear racks in the market.
I do not know if Givi has a copyright on the mounting system, and Coocase possibly paying a license fee, or if there even is a relation in between the two companies. It may be good for customers, if more companies take over the mounting system, so that different cases can be mixed and interchanged, also in between bikes.
In difference to several Givi cases the locking latch is in the inside of the case. I guess it is possible cracking the lid open with a screwdriver and raw force. Of course this would make the case unusable. But it is not possible just snapping the latch open, and then continue using the case. The inside of the case is roomy, it accommodates two Nolan N102 helmet upright, side by side. N102 are quite big helmets.
The alarm system is somewhat gimmicky. It is very sensitive, and the sound is not too loud. The remote control seems gimmicky first, but I think it is practical. If for example a person comes with loads of things in the hands, this can be useful. After looking at it in person I think it could be in future we will have more top cases and even side cases with magnetic openers in the market.
The case cost S$ 320 together with painted lid, remote control and alarm system. The case in engineered in Europe, and made in China. To me it looks very much as if Givi is the unknown engineer.
