Michelin Anakee 2

There is a new version of the famous Anakee available, called Anakee 2. A press release by Michelin gives some details. A brief translation: The company was able to optimize the compound on basis of experiences with other tires, by using elastomers coming from Moto GP, new silicate and also brand new resins for a hugely improved performance. Compared to the current Anakee a + 25% better mileage is claimed for the front, + 6% for the rear, by improving most of the other parameters like wet and dry grip. The Anakee 2 will keep the thread pattern of its predecessor, with minor changes done for better water drainage and even wear. The threads pattern at the outsides run slightly wider, at the same time thread depth on the outsides has been slightly reduced. The tire will have 5 and 8 mm thread for F/R. Delivery is supposed start from coming autumn.

Referring to my findings to the front Anakee here: 'Michelin Anakee User Reports' I would welcome if it has been improved, which sounds like it.

See a brief report here http://www.superbike.co.uk/news/michelin…25.html?aff=rss .

For a change of Pace I bought the Anakee 2s for my GSA to see how they compare to the Metzlers Tourances I have been running for the previous 21,000 miles. I mount my tire myself and balance using Dynabeads. The tires fit the rims a bit looser than the Tourance. I had a booger of a time getting the front to seal the bead. They were loose enough that I put the rear on without a tire tool. I use soap on the tire bead surface to aid in slipping on the rim. Initial ride assessment was in the rain without having all the release agent wore off the sides yet so the initial impressions were a bit squirly :chuckle: I will report back after a few days to wear them in 8-)

I am looking forward to your opinion about them

So I take it you are still happy with the Dynabeads? Did you re-use them?

Actually, yes I am reusing the Dynabeads. Though I must admit I had to add a few back. I lost a few while breaking the Tourances down off the rim. I hit 80mph this morning and all stable on new tires and old Dynabeads...lol.
PS: Is something wrong with PMs? I have sent you two with no response back.

Here is pics of the tread on Anakee II:

FRONT

REAR
As you can see, it looks more agressive for offroad. It seems narrower than Tourance, with a flatter riding surface 8-)

Put 150 miles on the Anakees today on both pavement and dirt road. I am not real happy with highspeed cornering with the Anakee. They do not track as consistantly as the Tourance in hard corners, seems unsteady. Same thought on the dirt, they were very squirley. I am gonna lower the air pressure some and check the results. I hope these improve, not sure what break in mileage is but I am at 200 miles on them now :whistling:

It seems you came to pretty similar conclusions as the German magazine MOTORRAD, clicky. I know tire tests are not necessarily reflecting reality. But this magazines tests are different and usually more trustworthy.

I bought the old Tourances, even though they are since long not anymore the leader of the pack. But they are well lasting with proven solid all-rounder performance.

I had read the Motorrad post about the Anakee2, but several other sources kept indicating that the Anakee2 was much improved over the older version. I never rode the old version and if it is worse than these I know I would never want too!Put another 100 mile plus yesterday on them NO improvement! X(

The Anakee 1 did not exhibit the unsteady behaviour under sportive riding, IMO. At least I found nothing different in this area to other good traillie tires with this sort of bigger profile pattern, clicky.

I have a tendency to drag hard parts in corners and I can usually feel right before it happens. The Anakee2 seems to lay in corner at a faster rate, which almost seems like you are falling which is very disconcerting under speed. Peter, what PSIs did you run your old Anakees.I am wondering if I need to run less air ?-(

Peter, I took your advice and lowered pressure to 36 front and 40 rear. I road a nasty road yesterday. The Anakee2s brought me home and did fairly well considering alot of it was wet clay. It was the worst I have taken my GSA through by far!!! It also had a steep hill with ledges at the top and then about 50 meters of water standing a foot deep. I was saoked time I made it but we did not go down

When riding nasty stuff, lower the pressures to 25 PSI front & rear & it will be a lot better.

Put 258 miles yesterday in one outing. Day started nasty and wet and 39 degrees F. By early afternoon it was dry and 78, welcome to Texas. Push the tires hard yesterday with some sustained speed riding and lots of corners I have now wore all the rubber titties off the tire.Tire definitely handles better once heated up, Still favor the Tourance.

I am now approaching 2,000 miles on the Anakee2s. Its an OK tire and may have slight advantage when new on the dirt against a Tourance. Pavement manners still suck!!! Will take a pic at the 2,000 mark to show wear. 8-)

Tire on rear is at 4,000 mile mark and is toast  I ordered another just because the front is still in good shape and I could not get a hold of a set of Heidenaus until late April. I will not use these again. I will post up how long second rear makes...Be advised I ride these hard

Totally in line with what I read elsewhere. How was performance towards the end? Would like to see a pic of the worn rear.

I will take pic when I change it this weekend. Sadly, I bought another Anakee2 to run out the front. I could not get a Heidenau yet. They will not be available until late May of 2010. :whistling:

Hey All... I am a recent R1200GS owner and recently put Anakee2 on my bike. I am wondering about real "good" off road pressures. I ride in AZ off road but typically don't release pressure. Today I was on combination hard pack washboard and then hit some soft areas. Front wheel shaking back end... well I just sat down and rode it out but needless to say for me as a fng to a big off road bike made me think i would loose it. I could really use some suggestions on general riding practices off road on the bike with regards to tire pressure. I was going about 55 mph when I hit going in and 35 going out... didn't really change how tight my butt got in that area... looking for some experience here...? Again I am new to off road on this size bike. On the road I have been good with the Anakee 2's.

Thanks

Peter
