Here is my first 'warranty' service case. Yesterday the battery gave up. Rode to lunch from work, came back about 20 minutes later, no lights no sound no starter. I started the engine by rolling down a sloop and engaging the 3. gear. I then drove straight to the BMW workshop.
BMW service man said they would hook the battery onto a charger over night. I told them it does not charge, otherwise it would have done so already on the way. He told me they measured everything and it just hints to the flat battery but no other problem, and I must have done something wrong with the battery, or I would not be ridding enough with the bike. Oh ha ... 20,000 km per year not enough.
They hooked the battery onto a charger over night. I got a phone call next morning. The result of the charging efforts: it was still not charged. How unexpected. They measured the voltage which was 13 V, but as soon as a small load is imposed the voltage breaks down. Then they hooked up another old battery (with only 12.5 V remaining on it). The bike started, and also this battery started charging. Workshop conclusion: The battery is not functioning. Sensational! Surprise!
How good we came this far after one day only. Unfortunately, from now it became an unpleasant and very redundant conversation. I got plenty advices, e.g. not to use fog lights in the city, to ride more long distances, etc. bla bla bla ... yea, Sorry I am allergic to this tactic, since my Suzuki times ... the 'Blame the customer' tactic.
