the karakorum

yes, the karakoram highway...hmmm....lets see....i'll tell you what i remember k.

that photo was taken at kilometer 0 north Pakistan. that is to say its at the nothern most point in the country and it was at the China-Pakistan border and if the highest land boarder and the highest highway in the world! it was a sunny day but extremely cold!! close to -1 if i can recall. The main pass is call the Kunjerad Pass and it has snow even in the summer i was told.it rises to close to 4833 meters at its peak (not the boder itself). It was part of the Silk road . From the capital Islamabad, to the border itself is a one way in , one way out highway that stretchs 980 kilometers. The sights are breath-taking and at one point on the not -too-good highway, is the meeting point of 3 larger mountain ranges. no wher else on earth will you find such a phenomena such as this.

I was doing a charity ride for the Asian Deaf Association in 2007 and had to ride the highway to get to schools close to the border. It was an amazing trip.and the KKH was one of the highlights.

nuff said. where are you coming from neighbour?
