R1150GS Vs. R1200GSA

As a rider of an 08 R1200GSA, I enjoy my bike and most folks don't rewind in their years. A friend of mine, decided to get rid of his R1150GS so he can buy a Ducati. His bike is loaded with Jesse's, Ohlins, Tobinators, Touratechs and Wunderlich farkles.

My wife has been wanting her own bike so I figure it would be good for her. This bike has the Rhinewest Performance chip in it also. I am really impressed with the performance of this bike. With the Ohlins, it rides like a dream too! I am not impressed with the Shinko tires though...I will be making other comparison as I put the miles on :-D

Another plus for the 1150 is the transmission! 6th gear is an actual overdrive. At 70 mph it is turning 600 rpm less than my 08 GSA. I wish my GSA had the taller 6th gear

Excellent point! I am with you 100%

A few years back GS and BMW forum groups were full of posts from riders in the line of "Why can't I reach top speed in the 6. gear?" Or, remember the O/D gear of the V-S DL1000? The very same complaint.

It must be my miss, I don't understand why someone needs to reach top speed in the 6. gear. Nobody ever gave a logical reason. In my world, if an engine is well capable of living with 5 gears - and the GS as well as the V-S 1000 engine are to a 100% - the 6. gear can positively be used for lowering touring / cruising rpm.

Unfortunately BMW gave in to stupidity. Billion flies like shit, so it should taste good ... Sorry for being so harsh, just my frank opinion.

Reckon I can bolt an 1150 tranny to a 1200??? Riding into a hard headwind, forced me to shift into 5th. wind speed was 40 mph 8-)
