Important Poll: International BMW Rear Drive Poll

International poll with regards to seal or bearing damages on rear drive of BMW motorcycles, please go here: clicky

  • I am hoping for the participation of many even though registration is required before voting.
  • It is possible and no problem for me erasing you from the member database after the poll is over, if you desire. The important part is a vivid participation from all over the world, but not "making members".
  • Please feel free adding comments.

We need your participation! Please tell your friend and each and every BMW boxer owner you know!

Can't seem to access the http://www.bmwfinaldrive.com/ website - looks like either it is down, or been removed. Smells like a conspiracy, eh 8-)

Based on the results from the poll, it seems the number of FD failures has been higher in recent years. Of course, these results should be weighted to the total number of bikes sold per year - as we know that GS's have had greater sales of late. Weighting aside, it makes me wonder if greater horsepower would be to blame? Could it be that the FD internals would need to be upgraded to deal with greater torque/hp? If that is the case, I sure hope they've reworked the FD for the new K1600GT/GTL series :D

FWIW, there's a member on www.bmwlt.com that offers a FD rebuild service for most K1200LT's, as well as some RT's, GT's and GS's (non-evo models only). Apparently, what he does isn't witchcraft - he simply rebuilds the FD with better quality crownwheel bearings which appears to solve the problem. He also offers a lifetime warranty on all his rebuilds.

I haven't contacted him myself, so I'm simply passing on information. For those who are interested, here's the link:

300 seems a fair price for this work with lifetime warranty.

Would some of the forum members perhaps be interested to sacrifice a few minutes for our poll?
